Vogue India will be based in Mumbai and will be the 17th edition of the magazine, hitting newsstands in the subcontinent's autumn. Nicholas Col eridge, Conde Nast UK's managing director, will oversee the launch. Col eridge said: “India is a subcontinent with a uniquely rich and fascinating culture. To launch an India edition of Vogue at this time is an exhilarating assignment.”

Vogue India's editor-in-chief will be Priya Tanna.

Vogue editor's daughter becomes British columnist

Perhaps good taste, style and fashionability can be inherited after all? Bee Schaffer, the 18 year-old daughter of British-born US Vogue editor Anna Wintour is to start writing her own style column for the Daily Telegraph from next Wednesday.

Schaffer, who attended the prestigious all-girls school Spence in Manhattan (alumni include Gwyneth Paltrow), says she is a real city girl who loves fashion and journalism, having previously worked at Teen Vogue, American Vogue's little sister.

When asked about her mother being referred to as “nuclear Wintour” she replied, “So much stuff is said about her, that she is a cold, mean person, but it is a myth to me. She wants to produce a great magazine, which you have to work very hard to do.”

Vogue Style Census

Vogue this month has published a style census; asking its readers what they're really like. From how much one spends on a single fashion item to being happy about one's body. To gain insight into how fashionistas rate their favourite designers, feel about aging and even drug use, this month's issue will tell you all.

According to the survey, the style secrets say that the average reader owns 16 pairs of shoes – five of which are unworn. When it comes to lingerie, she prefers to chose her own and she once spent £800 on a single fashion item.

Meet, what the ES describes, as the Alpha woman. On average, the alpha woman is 5ft 6in, a size 12 (as opposed to the British average of 14) and believes she looks fie years younger than she is. The style-conscious woman's only downfall is her thighs, the part of her body she would most like to change. She devours style magazines but cannot resist the allure of Gap and M&S.

Vogue's style census questioned 1,365 readers between 20-45 on their likes and dislikes. More than half named Alexander McQueen as the most stylish brand, with Chanel and Chloe in second and third places. The survey further revealed Calvin Klein to be the most popular designer, with just over hald of all women owning a garment by the brand. On the high street, Gap is by far the most popular, with three quarters of women owning something from the American chain.

Vogue editor dispels footballer's wife rumours

Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman in an article in The Daily Telegraph, stated that Wayne Rooney's (footballer's) wife, Colleen McLoughlin, did not pay to be featured in the May issue of Vogue, as was rumoured.

The rumours, which circulated amongst the gossip tabloids, were keen to portray Colleen as a shopaholic chav, who wanted to change her image to something more glamorous, consulting Vogue magazine for a little help along the way - and paying to have new photographs taken.

Shulman said Vogue approached Colleen not in an attempt to feature her as a style icon, but rather as a contemporary, young fashionable girl, with her own taste in clothes and who, as a result of the paparazzi, has been constantly in the limelight for her love of shopping and expensive, if sometimes, dubious taste. The May issue of Vogue is out next week.

Pie-in-the-face for Vogue editor

US Vogue editor - British born Anna Wintour - was the target of an anti-fur campaign at the Chanel catwalk show at Paris fashion week on Friday. An antifur activist shoved a tofu pie into the face of Wintour, who was quick to reply: "I think it was organic. It's good for the skin."

Wintour wasted no time in having her hair and makeup touched up and her raspberry Fendi jacket cleaned off. But she questioned security at the shows, since the attack happened beyond the metal detectors. Asked what actions she would take, Wintour didn't hesitate to say: "Wear more fur." Over the weekend, protesters chanted antifur slogans in French outside of shows, including John Galliano and Louis Vuitton.

Royal Vogue edition

Prince Charles will follow the steps of his sister, the Princess Royal, and Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, when he appears in a series of portraits in next month’s edition of British Vogue. Although the images were styled by Vogue’s Fashion Director, the shoot is not a fashion story. The images include a color shot of the Prince in an old brown embroidered coat feeding the chickens at Highgrove, his country residence, and a more formal black and white shot in which he is wearing a suit.

The idea for the shoot was germinated at last summer’s “It’s Fashion” party at Waddeson Manor when Shulman sat between the Prince of Wales and fashion photographer Mario Testino. Two of the images will appear in an exhibition of Testino's work at the National Portrait Gallery in London, which opens on February 1.

Testino is famed for his ability in taking people who have been over-exposed in the media, and photographing them in a completely different way. His ground-breaking series of portraits taken for the July 1997 issue of Vanity Fair showed a sensationally glamorous and alluring Diana, Princess of Wales, and he worked the same kind of magic on Madonna for her 1998 “Ray of Light” album. It’s therefore no surprise that he has managed to give the public an unexpected version of the Prince of Wales, who is reportedly so delighted with the photo session that he has requested that Testino shoot a new series of official pictures for him.
