Pure attracts buyers

British fashion and accessories trade fair Pure welcomed some of fashion’s most important buyers last week. Included in the mix were buyers from high end department stores like Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Selfridges, El Corte Ingles and Bloomingdales and independent stores like Shu Shu, Subcouture and Psyche. The organisation received enthusiastic reactions from buyers who commended the show for its introduction of new brands. Participants spoke about the large number of visitors and the considerable amounts of orders they wrote. The organisation was relieves to report that “although the industry reflects signs of tough trading in retail, Pure continued to attract quality retailers with many orders being made and Pure remained as busy as last August’s show.” Reactions to the Accessories division, which was the largest ever since the trade show began, were equally enthusiastic. “Pure is really important for us to get into the UK market,” said Stefania Sassi, area manager for jeans brand Liu-Jo. “In other shows we show for Public Relations – at Pure we take orders.”

Pure Trends

With a huge number of brands showcasing their Spring/Summer 2004 collections, along with a trend presentation from Draper's Record, followed by a catwalk show - the commercial trends for next summer soon became loud and clear.

Then there is the look that is all layered up with ethnic prints, scarves, decorative belts and trinkets and has been inspired by the eclectic mix of Betty Jackson, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Gharani Strok. Tones are kept warm and earthy with orange, khaki, sunset, sand and deep-sea blues. Brands are: Balu, Olly London, Pomelo, Noa Noa, Stephen Collins and Azuleros.

Also the simple & classic look is all about elegant, clean lines with unusual and unobtrusive detailing presented by Escada, Alice Palmer, Pirnia Collections, Belinda Ch'ng and Hunters and Gatherers.

Pure: Europe's Top Exhibition

Anyone who has dreaded the tradeshow circuit will think different of Pure. Launched for A/W 1997 it has made a dent in the exhibition scene like no other buying environment in Europe. With the womenswear market set to increase by 3.2 per cent this year, Pure reflects the fashion industry like no other tradefair. Add to that the showcasing of some of the finest talent in Europe and you have yourself a foothold as to what is new and relevant for next season.

Now sectioned into six areas, each 'hall' will have its own theme, from accessories to bridge collections and contempory designers to high fashion, making it easy for buyers to focus on the brands and collections they are buying.

The top European event, to be held in August, will also unveil an inspirational new arena for youth brands, called Pure Spirit, and will have a unique atmosphere, akin to the early days of fanzines and the launch of i-D. Pure Spirit will have its own bar and be host to a series of novel events, including a launch party on opening night.

Last season 2000 key buyers attended the exhibition especially for Pure Spirit. "The exciting blend of hip and undiscovered labels has proved indispensable for the independents which thrive on offering individuality from the high street, " states Louise Young, the Event Director. New labels to watch for in August include Trash Culture, Shirt Passion and Paper Doll Design.

Pure is held at Olympia, London from 17 - 19 August.

Pure grows to top European womenswear event

Pure, the British womenswear exhibition that is held in London at the Olympia Exhibition Centre on February 16,17 and 18, on Monday posted hopeful preliminary figures and said its new concept was paving the way to establish the trade fair as one of Europe's leading premium womenswear events.

Pure is organised by Emap Fashion and the Igedo Company. Emap Fashion also organises Premier Kids, and publishes Drapers and rj magazines. Visitors can view over 700 collections and find over 100 exciting newcomers at Pure. There are also exclusive catwalk shows from Betty Barclay and James Lakeland.

Organisers said the exhibition was benefitting from the division into different sections: new Pure Vision (inspirational designer brands, with the focus on creativity and original detail), Pure Spirit (fusion of exciting, young creative fashion and design), Pure Life (unisex brands, with a designer signature, reflecting an aspirational lifestyle) and Pure Elan (Contemporary brands and bridge collections for the modern woman). The Pure Accessories section (jewellery, wraps, bags, hats and shoes) has moved to the Grand Hall Oympia.

The organisers of Pure said that visitor numbers increased by thirteen per cent year-on-year on the first day. Compared to the event's summer edition last year August, numbers increased by even 32 per cent. In total, Igedo and Emap expect Pure London to attract 8,000 visitors, of which twenty per cent from outside the UK.

Pure & Premier huge succes

Happy exhibitors abounded at the UK ladies' fashion fair Pure & Premier that took place in London's Olympia fairground from August 18 to 20. The exhibition was sold out and hosted almost 300 exhibitors as well as about 850 collections. On day one, Pure & Premier, a joint-venture of Emap Fashion and Düsseldorf-based Ingedo Company welcomed 11% more visitors than in August 2001. The growing interest of buyers from abroad, whose share is reported to amount to 22%, underlines London's position as an exhibition location.

From February 2003 onwards, Pure & Premier will be complemented by the new segment Pure Life to enable brands with both ladies' and men's wear collections to present them under one roof. The UK market is not big enough for a men's wear exhibition. About 20 exhibitors are expected to register with for new Pure Life Segment at first.
