Better than expected revenues Fossil
Fossil, Inc. has announced that it expects first quarter revenues to be in the range of USD 165 million to USD 170 million, as compared to USD 143.6 million in the first quarter of the prior year. This increase includes approximately USD 5 million from a stronger than expected Euro. Fossil will present its Q1-report coming May 13.
Mike Kovar, Chief Financial Officer of Fossil, said: "We experienced a significant drop in orders during March causing our first quarter domestic sales to fall below expectations. On a positive note, sales from our international businesses continued to perform strongly."
Mr. Kovar added: "We continue to be excited about our prospects for the
second half of the year. We believe the global retail environment will improve
during the second half of 2003.

Fossil and Microsoft develop web-accessible wristwatch
Fossil and Microsoft have teamed up to launch the first watch that will enable users to access the Internet. On Thursday Fossil, Inc. announced the partnership to develop a fashionable new collection of watches incorporating Microsoft Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT). The new Fossil watch, powered by SPOT, will be available this fall in three branded versions. The watches will allow users to receive and display timely, customized Web content at the convenient flick of a wrist.
The watch will provide consumers with convenient, instant access to personalized Web information and services -- including news, weather, sports, stock quotes, instant messaging and more. With the easy-to-use configuration Web page, users select the content they desire. Once selected, the content is broadcast over a new radio receiver solution developed by Microsoft and beamed conveniently to the watch.
The SPOT watch is an important addition to Fossil's growing tech division and a great innovation for the watch industry, Donald Brewer, Fossil's Vice President of Technology, said in a statement.
Fossil plans to launch the new SPOT watch initially in three branded versions: the company's new Abacus tech brand targeting the electronics channel, the Philippe Starck with Fossil, a collection of watches designed by the well-known French designer, and Fossil. All versions of the watches powered by SPOT are scheduled to ship for fall 2003. Prices are still to be determined.
