High street retailer French Connection has warned that its turnover has been hit by the wider fall in consumer spending. In a trading
update for the three months to 30 October, the firm said its overall turnover was "slightly below the level achieved last year".
While UK like-for-like sales - which exclude new store openings - were up 1% in the quarter, French Connection said they had been "softer" in November.
At its North American stores, like-for-like sales were down 10%. French Connection said it was now "cautious" in its expectations for the key Christmas trading period, according to the BBC.
For Christmas 08, French Connection launched a capsule range of statement dresses and skinny tuxedo suiting to capture the high octane glamour of the holiday season. The collection is opulent with a sultry attitude that's distinguished yet given individual detailing with frills, textural embellishment and injections of vivid colour.
