Clissold buys Dechamps

British fabrics maker J H Clissold&Son this week confirmed it has bought Dechamps Textil from Germany. The company not only obtained the Dechamps brand name but also the last two collections as well as all yarn, weaving, dyeing and finishing operations.

Dechamps Textil discontinued production in June last year after filing for bankruptcy in September 2000. In 1999, the company exported approximately sixty per cent of its production mainly to countries such as the US, Croatia, Serbia and Turkey. Clissold, which was founded in 1910, has an annual capacity of two million metres, serves primarily the Middle East and last posted a turnover of twenty million euro.

Martin Kaivers, sales director of Dechamps for the past 19 years, will continue to be in charge of sales and distribution worldwide. Mr Kaivers will be based in the Belgian city of Eupen. Clissold will present the new Dechamps collection at Paris-based fabrics event Premiere Vision coming February.
