MFW: Prada SS12 Va Va Vroom

Friday, 23 September 2011
Cars & women, that was the essence of the Prada SS12 collection, which showed at Milan Fashion Week.

“It’s a bet on sweetness,” Ms. Prada said backstage. “Does a woman feel obliged to be sweet” in society, she asked, “or is it a choice?” After all, both are beloved by men.

As usual, she applied irony to the flowers that adorned coats, laced tops, jackets worn over pleated skirts, some with flame prints. The heels of sling-back shoes were also enflamed, like those on hot rods, and the 50s car prints, however sweet, reminded us a little of the Miu Miu handwriting from seasons past.

Prada's runway was off-set with life-sized, playschool-coloured polystyrene cars that provided front row seats for a lucky few.
