Fashion’s most iconic photographs go on sale today, November 2 at Christie’s in London. The collection celebrates the visual language of the 20th and 21st century, and features an impressive roll call of celebrities in candid portraits such as Johnny Depp, Madonna and Marilyn Monroe, to famous fashion shots including Vogue covers shot by Horst P. Horst, and other iconic photos by David Bailey and Helmut Newton.
 
The ‘Photographs’ sale, features over 150 works, with estimates ranging from £400 to £50,000. Key highlights of the collection includes: portraits of fashion designer Coco Chanel; the V.O.G.U.E, N.Y. 1940 cover of US Vogue shot by Horst P. Horst, which is estimated to achieve between £4,000 and £6,000; there is also campaign shots from Paco Rabanne by Jean Clemmer; and David Bailey’s intimate pictures of Johnny Depp and Marilyn Monroe.
 
"The sale presents a fantastic opportunity to buy some of the most iconic fashion and celebrity images which have shaped our popular culture of the 20th Century," said Christies' head of sale, Alexander Montague-Sparey. "Horst and Newton's ability to so poetically play with the notion of elegance and style with their models, is exemplified this season. What all our fashion and icon photographers all have in common in this sale is their ability to home in on the star quality of their muses with such originality, drawing out their souls."
