House of Fraser revamp cuts 13 brands

Wednesday, 01 February 2012
Spring is the time of year to start afresh, make changes and update our wardrobes. This also rings true for retailers, who are revamping their departments to offer the best designers and competitive brands. But most importantly they aim to have brands that achieve sell thru's on the shop floor rather than get left on the hangars at sale time.

So a spring clean has made its way to House of Fraser’s Oxford Street flagship store, which confirmed it has dropped 14 of its womenswear labels, to freshen up its spring offer. Surprisingly, the refreshment included letting go of longstanding brand James Lakeland, which has been a stalwart at the store for 16 seasons.

Lakeland, in a statement, said it will also focus on its London standalone stores on New Cavendish Street and in St John’s Wood, whilst continuing to have a presence on House of Fraser's website. But no doubt being axed by a department store can have an enormous negative impact on a brand, both financially and from a marketing.

House of Fraser, in a separate statement, said it will extend its collaboration with Mary Portas, which will include four new shop-in-shops planned to open next month to take full advantage of the spring!
