West-End shoppers to get free wifi deals
Friday, 27 July 2012Westminster Council has set up a free wifi service in the heart
of London's West End shopping district.
The service, which covers Oxford Street, Regent Street, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, offers users access to special local deals at nearby boutiques and landmarks, featured on their handsets, depending on where they are in the West End. Retailers such as Debenhams and House of Fraser have already partnered with the Council and O2, who are providing the service.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said the O2 Wi-Fi service will remain free of charge to all users after the Olympics have closed. "With millions of extra people coming to town for the Games, we want to ensure we showcase the capital as the best city in the world to work and visit, and the addition of free Wi-Fi to some of our most popular landmarks is crucial in helping to maintaining that reputation."
