River Island considers US expansion

British fashion retailer River Island is reported considering opening its first store in America in New York City. According to The Independent, River Island which has 300 stores in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, is currently looking for a suitable building to launch its first American flagship.

The expansion would see the British high street retailer follow similar moves made by Arcadia’s Topshop, which opened its first US store in New York three years ago, and would join other UK retailers including Ted Baker and All Saints.

The news follows the fashion retailer’s announcement of a partnership with pop star Rihanna who will be designing her first clothing collection exclusively for the brand, which is due to launch in Spring 2013.
