Peacocks on brink of administration

Monday, 16 January 2012
High street retailer Peackocks could be placed into administration this week after talks with banks about a possible debt “haircut” appeared to have reached an impasse.

The future of the retailer, which has almost 700 stores across the UK, hangs in the balance as a series of complex talks between equity and debt holders had still not led to a solution on Saturday night.

Albert Frank Peacock founded the company in Warrington, Cheshire in 1884 as a true Victorian Penny Bazaar selling anything and everything.

From the mid 1990s onward Peacocks experienced significant development and growth and a greater emphasis on fashion, which helped to propel the brand as a high street contender.
