The future for Peacocks is looking less bright now that only one bidder remains. Just last
week the company still had 6 bidders interested in potentially taking over the value retail business.
According to The Sun, the remaining bidder is Indian apparel and textile firm S Kumars Nationwide is the last bidder with a chance to save the ailing company.
Last week South Wales Labour MPs spoke with Peacocks’ administrators KPMG to attract a potential buyer, which could see 9000 out of a job if a buyer for the business is not found. The local government is keen to keep the company’s headquarters in Wales and ensure a sound financial structure for the group.
In a 10 February letter to the Save Peacocks campaign, MP Brennan stated: “the message we passed to the administrators as a group of South Wales Labour MPs when we had a conference call with the administrators i.e. save jobs, keep HQ in Wales, get a buyer who wants to run the company as a going concern with a sound financial structure.’
