John Lewis beats Christmas sales records

Friday, 31 December 2010

John Lewis reported a stellar start to the sale and discounting season.

Commenting on the first three full days of Clearance, Monday 27 December to end of Wednesday 29 December, Nat Wakely, Director Selling Operations for John Lewis, said: 'We have had a fantastic start to Clearance with both 27 and 28 December beating our previous record for a single day's sales. We saw sales of £27.8m on 27 December which is up 54 per cent on the same day last year (which was a Sunday) but more significantly it is +30 per cent on our previous biggest ever day, which was 27 December 2008.

'For the first three full days of Clearance (where all our shops and johnlewis.com have traded) sales are up 26.2 per cent. There has been an overwhelmingly positive response to our Clearance offer with customers queuing outside our shops on the first day in anticipation of the bargains on offer. All three buying directorates have seen very strong sales.'
