Bread & Butter Barcelona in January celebrated its eighth season with the theme ‘Kingsize’. The tradeshow, since its first came to Spain, quickly built a reputation as one of the most important European fashion events of the continent. The figures speak for themselves, more than 99,500
visitors, an increase of 20 per cent over last year; nearly 1000 exhibitors, of which 150 new, and 120 Spanish, companies such Llosa, Gloria Gastaldi and Manuel Bolaño. All of these showed in the Studio VI area.
Another innovation set make this summer’s show a success is The Source, where a new area of approximately 5000 meters will be dedicated to integrating the previous phases of the fashion industry. According to Mr. Heinz "there are many important people of the industry interested in this project, and we are sure that it will work.” Also related with the idea of facilitating businesses ‘The Hangar’ space will be created, where bigger companies requiring greater space and resources will be able to present in a space of almost 3000 m2. According to the director of the Fira of Barcelona, Agustí Cordó, the benefit to Barcelona has grown in comparison to last winter and is expected to earn the city approximately 100 million Euros. Many exhibitors do not do their core business at Bread & Butter, rather it is increasingly important to be seen and be a part of the brands on show. Danijela Ristic, PR Director for Turkish brand Mavi stated: “We sell all over the world. It’s really important to be here. It’s very international, and everyone is here. It’s the 6th time that we’re here. We’ve been since the start, also in Berlin. We come to get new customers and to show Mavi to the people.” In the Superior pavilion, Angela Kunst, Product Manager for German brand Drykorn, commented: “We’ve attended BB from the start. First in Cologne and later in Berlin, and now in Barcelona. We present the new collections here. We want to create a place were clients can visit us. And we want new customers, but that’s obvious. Many European countries were interested in the brand. We don’t sell here directly, but we make appointments. We avoid selling here at the fair. Only stock selling is possible.” Image: Fair |

The theme for next season has already been announced and will be ‘New Order’ and visitors can expect more space, more integration of young designers in the stands, a re-organisation of the thematic pavilions, more outside areas, additional shows in the MNAC and, most importantly, greater exclusivity of exhibitors. Furthermore, the new business club will allow patrons to work whilst enjoying catering by renowned Spanish company Ferrán Adriá.
