Rumour has it that flailing Italian fashion house Versace may sell a 25 per cent stake of its company to clear debts and make way for expansion. The Milan based company has made public that it would prefer a financial investor to take such a holding.

Back in 1997 the Gucci Group proposed a merger, which at that time Versace responded it was too "premature" to discuss merging.
