Iconic London department store Harrods may suffer a strike if it does not agree to talks over workers' pensions. Worker's union Amicus, which represents about 100 engineers and maintenance workers, warned that the store would face a "damaging" strike, accusing it of closing its salary pension scheme to members without proper consultation. The union said that if the engineers and maintenance staff went on strike, it would result in the closing of the store. It will question its members this week about the possibility of a strike ballot against Harrods owner Mohamed Fayed. Amicus said that it has offered a number of alternatives to solve the problem, but Harrods refused to negotiate and was planning to implement a new scheme. |
