Bored of punk and weary of the futurists, autumn 2004 is going to be a year of vintage dressing and going back to our roots. A tailoring-focused trend is already making its way into the mainstream and luxury fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and Dries van Noten have brought back the elegance of the early vintage decades. Back to the days of the silver screen greats, with clothing that recreates that age of refinement and elegance from the 20s to 40s, traditionally-crafted suits are key. But when the man is off duty, he opts for retro on-the-piste 1930s alpine sportswear. Think herringbones, checks and quilted wool jersey in couture greys, aged champagne tones and soft caramels. Key pieces will be fine-knit sleeveless waistcoats, monogrammed shirts and the chicest of leather gloves. |
