Marks and Spencer's pay bill for its directors jumped more than 14 per cent to GBP 7.29m last year.

Vittorio Radice, the former man behind Selfridges, was paid GBP 1.2m in the year to March 29. The other big winner in the pay stakes were Luc Vandevelde, the chairman who became non-executive during the year, and Roger Holmes, the chief executive.

M&S said the bonus pool across the group as a whole was GBP 43m - with the directors taking about six per cent of the total amount.

The Marks & Spencer group employs 65,000 people.
